Remaining Logical

by Michael Jamison

In that classic tale of "The Emperor’s New Clothes," someone had to break the spell of an illusion and declare that the Emperor had no clothes. That deception detector had to be someone honest, authentic, and as indifferent to the opinions of others as only a child can be. Let us resolve to be just as genuine and unconcerned over letting the chips fall where they may when speaking our own truth.

The world has many examples of untruth. Many are they who act as shyster hucksters intent on selling us invisible clothing. They are potentially everywhere, not just on used car lots. They are in the halls of government and they are in the pulpits of churches. Our challenge is to avoid becoming seduced. Our task is to prevent our common sense from being overridden. The safeguard we have is the logic of the mind, but as with any anti-theft device, it must be applied to be effective. Logic everything out, and when people say to you that some things cannot be logically explained reflect on how this sounds as bogus as declaring that God works in mysterious ways.

We live in a logically ordered universe. It could not have been created any other way. Whatever in the universe cannot this moment be explained is simply above our heads just now. Let us keep our heads while we strive to logic it out. Over time, logic always wins out, because divine order ever prevails.
